Shipping FAQ’s

At Elmwood Stock Farm, we ship our meats frozen using insulated shipping materials including dry ice or gel packs. To ensure our products arrive safely at your door, we ship perishable products using shipping methods that minimize transit time. This method of shipping might be more expensive than shipping methods used elsewhere, but it is vital in maintaining product integrity. We suggest purchasing multiple items in a single order to get the most out of a single shipping cost.

All orders are fulfilled and packed on our farm. Because we are a small farm, we are limited in our fulfillment and shipping capacity primarily due to limited access to dry ice. We ship on Tuesdays only. Any orders received after 12:00 pm on Tuesday afternoon will be shipped the following Tuesday. This prevents packages with perishable items from being held over the weekend at a UPS warehouse facility.

If you are traveling or have plans to be out of town, please note this in the comments section of your order. It is the customer’s responsibility to let us know at the time of ordering, if they won’t be home to retrieve a package.

Once a shipping label has been generated for your order, you will receive an email with tracking information for your package.

Orders containing perishable items are shipped via UPS Overnight or 2nd Day Air to ensure food safety and product quality. These shipping totals are calculated per pound per mile by our shipping provider, UPS. Local shipments may be shipped using UPS Ground if the shipment can arrive within a day’s transit time. These instances will be determined at the discretion of the farm.

Currently, we are not shipping produce or egg items. Due to the delicate nature of these items, they cannot be shipped using the dry ice method used for our meat products.

If your order does not contain any perishable items, we usually will ship UPS Ground.

We ship items via UPS.

All items are cut, packed and vacuum-sealed at the butcher. Items leave the farm frozen and we ship in insulated shipping boxes using dry ice and sometimes frozen gel packs depending on the box size and shipping location. To minimize transit time and preserve product integrity, we ship UPS Overnight or 2nd Day Air.

If your order still contains dry ice upon arrival at your door, wear gloves to remove the dry ice bag from the box and place the bag outdoors. Once the dry ice is completely dissipated, dispose of the bag.

We source the highest quality insulated shipping boxes to protect and preserve the meat items in your order. While the packing materials are not recyclable at your local center, they are reusable, and we encourage you to take part in our box recycling program by mailing your box back to us for reuse. Details on how to return your box to us can be found below and also are included with your order.

We take food safety and shipping our products very seriously. We take as many measures as possible to ensure your order arrives in a safe condition. It is possible that a portion of your order may not arrive completely frozen. If items are still quite cold, go ahead and place them in your freezer, or place them in your refrigerator to use promptly. If you have a question about a partially thawed item, call the farm immediately and let us know what you are seeing. Our number is 859-621-0755. If you can, also send a photo of the item label, packaging, the product, the shipping box, and any other helpful information to [email protected]

If any portion of your order is warm to the touch upon arrival, please reach out to us at [email protected] or 859-621-0755 and then discard that portion of the order. We will take the necessary steps internally to identify the problem and work with you for a resolution that’s reasonable and manageable for everyone.

The U. S. Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) advises: “Once the food is thawed in the refrigerator (40), it is safe to refreeze it without cooking, although there may be a loss of quality due to the moisture lost through thawing.” After cooking raw foods that were previously frozen, it is safe to freeze the cooked foods. If you are concerned about the shelf life of any of your products, we suggest cooking them and then freezing them. Read more about food safety and storage.

All meats are USDA inspected and packaged and frozen at the butcher. The plastic used for meats and for broth is BPA-free.

Sending back your shipping box is easy! You can send a box back through the post office using the “Media Mail Rate”. Simply place a used book inside, remove any paper packaging materials from inside the box, cover up the dry ice and perishable stickers and take it to your local post office to mail back to us for $4-$6. We will donate all used books to our local community and reuse the shipping box and insulated materials for future shipments.

We appreciate your effort in allowing the  reuse of shipping materials. It helps us to keep pricing down and prevents excessive waste of packing materials.

Once meat leaves our farm, we are not able to accept returns. However, if you have concerns or questions about something you have received, please reach out to our customer service team at 859-621-0755.
