For the Love of Eating Local

Something we get asked quite a bit, especially by folks who are newer to us, is if we ever plan on having farm dinners. Those that have been with us longer will remember that at one time we would host special events, most often for our CSA shareholders, in which we should literally break bread while sharing more about the inner workings of the farm. As rewarding as these opportunities were, we unfortunately reached a critical point where we had to shift focus and prioritize what was most important: producing safe and wholesome food for our community. We (and many of you) mourned this loss but were understanding that it was for the greater good.

Luckily though Apiary, a Lexington-based supper club run by our longtime friend and fan of Elmwood, Cooper Vaughn stepped in last year to bridge the gap in a larger than life way. Several months prior to October 27, 2023 he had come to us with an idea. For years he had wanted to host an authentic Asado dinner for his guests at a local farm using the freshest and most local ingredients possible with lights, music, fire pits and communal farmhouse tables. We thought it was an amazing idea and were more than happy to say yes. Needless to say it was a smashing success on all accounts and a night to truly remember with almost every ingredient from the delicious meal coming from our farm.

We’ve been fortunate enough to know Cooper, his chef Tony Yalnazov, and the rest of the team for many, many years since before Apiary grew into what it is today. They regularly visit and purchase from us at the farmers market, we deliver weekly for their special events and we even grow a couple of special items just for them. We love being able to partner with them to give the community an opportunity to experience local eating in a whole new and exciting way that would otherwise be impossible for just us to manage. That’s why when Cooper and Tony approached us again this year about putting on another Asado dinner we immediately and enthusiastically agreed.

And what’s particularly exciting about this year’s dinner is that it’s open to the public, and you’re invited! It’s happening on June 8, 2024 (very soon!) and is set to feature a whole open-air grilled lamb (from Elmwood of course), along with our Berkshire pork, Angus/Wagyu beef and all the very best seasonal veggies, berries and herbs like arugula, green kale, baby red beets, blueberries, raspberries and rhubarb, basil, oregano, sage and more. Knowing Chef Tony and his team it’s going to be absolutely delicious!

Tickets can be purchased here. We hope to see you here at the farm!
