We spoke last week about giving back to the organic farming movement at large but we are also actively working to give back to our community here at home, too.
As part of our CSA program we match monetary contributions from members to donate shares and supplies to those experiencing food insecurity around us. We feel extremely fortunate to have such a supportive and generous customer base and with that we have been able to partner with several local organizations to donate food on a regular basis.
This year during the holiday season we also have our Feed a Need offering where every bag purchased means we donate a selection of organic produce and eggs to organizations serving those in need.
Between the Feed a Need bags and contributions made by our CSA members we’re proud to have donated nearly $15K in product so far in 2025 with another $3-4K expected to go out this month.
We wanted to highlight some of the organizations we’ve partnered with in the hopes that you might be inspired to contribute – either to our Feed a Need initiative or to them directly.
Sisters Road to Freedom
We’ve been fortunate to work with Sisters Road to Freedom for many years. Based in Lexington and founded by Therese Wright, their mission is to serve underserved, low income and food insecure families in Fayette County and provide them with access to nutritious food, wellness workshops and more.
FoodChain
Started in 2011, FoodChain seeks to increase access to locally sourced, fresh food in the Lexington area. They also have an in-house indoor aquaponic farm which supplies local restaurants with fish and produce.
Amen House
Amen House’s mission is to end hunger in Scott County through initiatives like their restaurant-style space Russ’ Kitchen, plus a food pantry and resource center.
We also work God’s Pantry Food Bank and several faith-based organizations in our area.
Getting to make a positive impact on our local food system is the most rewarding part of our work and getting to fight food insecurity directly this way is the cherry on top.
If you’d like to get involved (even if you’re not local) consider donating a Feed a Need bag this season! Every dollar goes toward farm-grown nourishment, ensuring your contribution reaches families who could use a helping hand. It’s an easy, meaningful way to share the abundance of the farm with those that can use it.
