Some people refer to this time of year as the holiday season; farmers call it conference season, because this is when the agricultural organizations have their conferences—we’re too busy farming during the rest of the year to get together with other farmers, no matter how valuable we know it will be. Having been attendees at agriculture conferences for more years than we might admit, it’s not hard to say that the SSAWG conference and OAK conference are two of the best there are. This is the last year that the SSAWG conference will be in Lexington for some time, and we can’t encourage you enough to attend for at least one day. Both organizations have sessions geared toward a consumer audience as well as the farmers.OFRF has educational resources online for farmers, yes, but also for anyone who wants to become involved in school gardens, urban farming, nutrition and food justice.
Membership
Of these three organizations, OAK is the only actual membership organization. A membership offers discounted registration for the annual conference and low-cost events throughout the year that are geared toward both farmers and consumers. Your business can become a member, too. You can learn
about membership here.
Activism
Activism isn’t a big, scary thing that requires you to take to the streets with picket signs. Activism can be a quiet, grassroots movement, and that’s what OFRF is building.

Financial Support
There’s no doubt your email inbox is full of solicitations from worthy organizations hoping to receive year-end support from you. Well, here’s one more that’s near and dear to our hearts:
SSAWG,
OFRF and
OAK are each nonprofits and would gladly accept your donation of any size to help them advance the country’s organic farming practices and your access to organic food for the future. You or your business might even consider becoming a sponsor of the 2017
SSAWG conference or
OAK conference.
