If you’ve been with us for even a few months, you’ve probably learned that growing food sustainably and organically, with as few inputs as possible, takes a little more effort. But as if to match those efforts, we’ve seen an increase in demand for locally grown crops and products from animals that eat and roam and play as nature intended.
We don’t anticipate that need to slow down anytime soon. So, as the need for our kind of work grows, we’re recruiting more talented and amazing people to better serve Elmwood buyers, current and future.
We’d like to introduce you to Heidi Franklin, our new Sales and Marketing Director. We took a little time last week to get to know more about her background and her interests. We’d like you to get to know her as well. She will be an integral part of the living system that is our farm. We’ll let her speak for herself.
What’s your role here on the farm?
Answer: Hi! I’m the Director of Sales and Operations. I lead Elmwood’s direct-to-consumer sales, light wholesale, and distribution operations. I also oversee the amazing team, processes and systems that bring Elmwood products from the farm to our incredible customer base.
Why did you apply for a role on a small, family-owned organic farm?
Answer: I’ve always been passionate about supporting locally owned, family-run businesses. When I discovered this opportunity at Elmwood, I was genuinely excited. A sales position at a company that prioritizes both people’s well-being and their own integrity? It felt like an ideal fit for my skills and values, and I’m eager to contribute to a team that makes such a meaningful impact on individuals and the environment.
You’re a Georgetown local. Did you grow up around here?
Answer: I grew up in Georgetown, and after a short venture to Lexington during college, I chose to raise my children here. I’ve witnessed our town evolve in remarkable ways thanks to a strong sense of community and a strong passion for supporting local.
Did you have a relationship with Elmwood Stock Farm before joining up?
Answer: I was originally introduced to Elmwood Stock Farm close to a decade ago through a former employer’s CSA benefit voucher participation. Over the years, I’ve continued to support and stay connected with Elmwood through our local farmers market.
Who are you outside of work? What are some things you enjoy in your free time?
Answer: Outside of my professional life, I’d consider myself a master coordinator of a large blended family, an extremely proud wife to a veteran, and a dog mom. When not cheering on one of our busy kids, I’m planning our next adventure, tackling home and garden projects, or volunteering.
Tell us about your favorite thing we make here at Elmwood.
Answer: I cannot wait to experience all the seasons here at Elmwood and discover the many varieties of produce, meat, and pantry options we have to offer. I do have to say: so far, I am a very big fan of our carrots, fingerling sweet potatoes, and dried tomatoes.
What’s your favorite recipe you’ve cooked using food from the farm?
Answer: Oven seared lamb chops. With a side of caramelized sweet potatoes and fresh spinach salad. Chef’s kiss! And it’s kid-approved!
You’re only a few weeks in at the time of this interview, but what’s your favorite thing about working on the farm so far?
Its a true tie between the people and culture, and the honesty and pride embedded in Elmwood’s practices. It is incredibly fulfilling to come to work everyday knowing that you’re making an impact, all while surrounded by a team that shares and supports these same values.
New faces, same values
As the crew here on the farm expands, the hats we wear change shape, grow, and take on new meaning. Heidi is no different. She’ll be an evolving part of the process as we prepare for Summer harvest and Summer CSA.
We’ll keep delivering quality organic products to our CSA members, and we strive to improve on that every season you’re with us. If you haven’t signed up for our 2026 Summer CSA, we couldn’t recommend a better time. Give your household the benefit of sustainable, organic produce all Summer long. It’s our season with the widest variety and the biggest volume of incredible food. We’d like to share it with you.
