She’s Here to Help! Meet Kendall

You may already know this nice lady. Kendall is our Customer Service Associate. She’s usually the first person to speak to you on the phone or at the farm store, and if you pick up your CSA share from the farm on Tuesdays, she’s there to greet you. Kendall is a Georgetown local, a UK Agriculture graduate, and a big fan of organic eating.

In your own words, what does your work at Elmwood Stock Farm mean to you?

Hey, I’m Kendall! It is a privilege to be able to advocate for local and organic eating by guiding customers to our offerings that suit their needs. I get to interact with people who are learning about CSA for the first time or are wanting to get started sourcing more wholesome, organic options to better support their health.

I also get to help and support our long-time members who are veteran seasonal, healthy eaters. It is rewarding to support those who value a lot of the same things I do, like sustainable and organic practices, small businesses, and healthy eating, and to help them fill their tables with our food.

What’s your favorite thing you get to do here on the farm?

I love getting to see our CSA members who pick up here at the farm each week. The community-building aspect of CSA is such an enriching experience that is lost with traditional grocery stores.

Every week, I enjoy seeing our members’ familiar faces and hearing what kind of recipes they made recently, or how they enjoyed a recent vacation. It is special to be a part of this bridge between producer and consumer.

Are you from Georgetown, KY?

I am originally from Lexington, but my husband grew up in Georgetown and we chose to move here a couple of years ago.

Do you have a fun or wholesome farm story?

There is nothing more wholesome here at the farm than the first sight of lambs that have just been welcomed into the world. It is something I look forward to and the customers at the farm store are also so delighted to witness these tiny animals frolicking in the pastures.

What brought you to Elmwood?

I learned about Elmwood through a class on sustainable agriculture at UK. Part of the curriculum explored the CSA business model and the ways it benefits both farmers and consumers.

We studied some local examples and Elmwood was one of them! I was very interested in the wide variety of products grown on the farm and the commitment to supporting the health of the land and consumers.

Who is Kendall outside of work? What does she do in her spare time?

In my spare time, I love going on outdoor adventures with my husband whether it is hiking, fishing, or kayaking. I usually bring my camera along to capture all the natural beauty I see. I also love to paint wildlife and read historical fiction novels, which are best enjoyed outdoors under a nice tree.

What’s a recipe you’d recommend to a Summer CSA member, and why?

I love making burrito bowls, and peak summer here at the farm is the best time for it! I make a Pico de Gallo topping with tomatoes, garlic, onions, cilantro and jalapeños from the farm.

I usually include roasted Elmwood bell peppers, seasoned chicken, and our mixed lettuce or microgreens as well on top of a cilantro lime seasoned rice with some cheese and avocado. It is super customizable based on what you like, and it is perfect for summer!
