IT’S NATIONAL CSA WEEK. LET’S TALK ABOUT IT.
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and functions like a subscription to our farm’s harvest. As a member, each week you get the first opportunity before anyone else to select your preferred farm products (vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs, bread, and coffee). Then we harvest, prepare, and pack up your share. Opt for local pick-up at one of our many hubs, or get home delivery! depending on your location.
But our CSA program is about way more more than just the food. It’s been going strong for 20+ years now and we’re incredibly grateful for our shareholders each and every day.
You may know this already because you’re a current or past CSA member, or you just care about the same things we do. But we’ve been thinking lately that CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is actually a pretty revolutionary idea. We, the farm, make an agreement with a you, a member, that whatever we harvest that week, you get your share.
There’s no grocery store middle man marking up prices. No, the good money our subscribers pay for our harvest goes straight back to the farm. It supports and grows our family-owned operation, it pays the people who work here and live in the same neighborhoods as our members, and it helps us raise our families.
From forty-five members in our first year, to the many hundreds today, our shareholders’ monetary contributions help us plan ahead for the coming harvest and allow us to expand and improve our regenerative organic farming system that provides the best farm fresh food in the world. We’re a low-input farm. We love getting to share each season’s best with our members every week and our mutual support makes up the backbone of what CSA is all about.
IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT THE FOOD. EVEN SO, THE FOOD IS JUST BETTER.
CSA is a sure-fire way to know that when you open your fridge or pantry, you’ll find something that was grown within 100 miles of where you live. Nothing you’re eating from our CSA was shipped in from another country. The difference is in the nutrient content. Our produce hasn’t even had time to break down in transit because right after harvest, we turn around and pack it for our members. We don’t have to artificially extend the shelf life of a fruit or vegetable, it’s already at its peak freshness. Our members feel the difference not only in the nutrition they’re getting, but the flavor and texture.
You might be here because many of your values overlap with ours, and one of those shared values might be this: more people should eat produce grown where they live. You don’t have to look far to find the science that says it’s better for humans and the ecosystem. We’re so committed to this principle, this is what we do about it:
