One of the Oldest CSA Programs in Kentucky: KY Proud Fall CSA Week

This week, Kentucky Proud and several other organizations are lifting up local farms across the Commonwealth of KY that offer Community Supported Agriculture, the partnership between household and farm that allows the community to invest directly in the success of a farm in their area, and by extension, the health of their local food system. The Kentucky Proud Fall CSA Week spotlights this very relationship.

There’s a lot of joy in being one of those farms – we’re grateful to be on the roster! So what is Fall CSA Week supposed to do?

Helping People Partner With The Right Farm

Every farm is different – we all grow different things, structure our CSA programs a little differently, and serve different parts of the state.

CSA Week makes it easy to put us all in front of households that might be looking for a Fall CSA. Most Fall CSA seasons are starting very soon – ours starts next week!

  • A CSA Share puts the bounty of the fall harvest in your kitchen. But the ideal household-farm relationship meets the needs of both parties.
  • A CSA subscriber, regardless of the finer details, is usually looking for a proven CSA program, run by a farm that’s had time to develop a smooth process for their members. They’re also usually looking for quality, variety, and good customer service.

How does an Elmwood Fall CSA Share stack up?

We’re proud to say that we were one of the first farms in Kentucky to offer a CSA, and we’re certainly one of the few certified organic CSAs in the area. We don’t use synthetic chemicals on the food we raise and we don’t grow GMO crops. We’ve been at this for a while. And in that time, we’ve been able to innovate.

Our CSA offerings are fully customizable, from week to week. Log on once a week to pick and choose what produce you want. Likewise for organic, grass-fed / pastured raised meats and poultry. We harvest your choices the very next day, and deliver them the next. You can also pause your CSA share should you go on a work trip or vacation.

What we offer? Not just vegetables.

  • Vegetables: We grow leafy greens year-round, so you won’t be without them even when the weather cools off thoroughly. You can expect a healthy selection of potatoes (sweet and otherwise), carrots, fall squashes, spinach, cabbage, garlic, onions, salad lettuces, root crops, varieties of leafy greens, along with some end-of-summer crops like green beans, sweet peppers, and much more.
  • Pasture-Raised Meats: We offer organic cuts of organic Wagyu-Angus beef, pork, chicken, turkey, and lamb. These can be conveniently delivered alongside your veggies if you choose to add them on!
  • Pasture-Raised Eggs: These eggs come from our laying hens, which live outdoors on organic pasture. They enjoy fresh air and sunshine, forage on green grass and clover, and eat wholesome, organic, non-GMO grains.
  • Locally Baked Bread: Sourdough, focaccia, English muffins, and more. Everything is made with organic ingredients and made fresh weekly by our favorite local bakery, Hopewell Bake Exchange.
  • Locally Roasted Coffee: Quality organic beans, roasted by our friends at Caffe Marco in Bourbon County, KY.

Purchase a full share of eggs, meats, coffee, and bread to guarantee your choice of those items each week. Or add items from each of these categories to your vegetable share when you log on to customize.

We have the longevity required to fully show up for you. And we communicate with you throughout the season. As new offerings roll through, as developments on the farm occur, and as the season progresses, you’ll receive news, updates, recipes, and veggie storage tips from the farm to help you make the most of your CSA share.
